HOPE Esther

Esther Hope’s paintings of the New Zealand, South Island high country sheep station, The Grampians, have come to characterise familiar perceptions of the Mackenzie Country.

Tutored by water-colourist Margaret Stoddart in 1907, Hope also attended the Slade School of Art and studied in Europe (1911-1914).

Hope’s work is held in the collection of the Christchurch Art Gallery.
